The 9th Soccer Law of the Game

Look, in soccer (also known as football outside of the United States), the laws of the game are established by the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

Simply put, there are 17 laws in total, which cover everything from the size and composition of the field to the way the game is started and how it is played.

Let’s take a closer look, the 9th soccer law of the game, also known as Law 9, deals with the ball crossing the goal line and the awarding of a goal.

Specifically, it states that a goal is scored when the whole of the ball has crossed the goal line between the goal posts and under the crossbar, provided that no infringement of the laws of the game has been committed by the team scoring the goal.

It’s get better: this soccer law of the game indicates that, a goal is not awarded if the ball was last touched by an attacking player before crossing the goal line and if it was kicked into the goal by an opposing player or if it crossed the line as a result of a throw-in or goal kick by the opposing team.

If a team scores a goal in these ways, a goal kick or corner kick will be awarded to the opposing team instead.

But here is the kicker: Also the Goalkeeper only can touch the ball inside the Penalty area and with the hands if the ball is in the possession of a player from the opposite team, and only if the ball was kicked to him with the foot.
